Yotam Havkin
For Ordinary Representative
L1936489
My name is Yotam and I’m running for ordinary rep as I want to give back to an organisation that has given me so much. After joining the Labour Party at 15, I’ve served on Leeds Labour Society’s executive, along with involvement in my CLP’s youth branch, and organisations like the Young Fabians. With Labour in government and many people’s first political experiences being at university, it is more important than ever for us to have active and organised Labour societies at every university.
Labour Students has given me opportunities to meet incredible people and life-long friends, whilst developing my own political skills. As Ordinary Rep, I will continue to push for more campaign days, training weekends, and conferences that have all benefitted my political education. Labour Students has a proud history of being one of the best-mobilised sections of the party. I am proud of the role that students like me played at the last general election, making the difference in crucial battleground seats across the country. I will push for more travel funds to ensure campaigning is accessible to everyone.
Furthermore, as a Jewish student, I will prioritise Labour’s values of standing up against any form of discrimination on campus such as the rise of hatreds like antisemitism.
With political polarisation and apathy that many young people feel today, it can be challenging to stick up for our party and values - however, the threat of extremist politics makes this more important for us to do than ever.
