Kira Lewis
For Ordinary Representative
L1355990
Hi, I’m Kira Lewis, and I’m running to be an Ordinary Rep on the Labour Students National Committee. I’m an MA student in History and Contemporary Politics at Birkbeck and a Labour and Co-operative councillor in Waltham Forest, London, where I was elected in 2022 as our first non-binary councillor.
As a postgrad student on a flexible degree, I know how often our voices get missed in organising structures that assume everyone studies full‑time on a traditional timetable. I’m standing because I want Labour Students to properly reflect the reality of modern student life, where people study part‑time, work alongside their degrees, care for family, or return to education later on. Our structures should work for all of us.
I’ve been a Labour member since I was 15. My politics come from lived experience: growing up on free school meals, working in a warehouse during Covid, struggling with making ends meet in my undergrad - and helped by my trade union’s credit union. I’m now proud to be on the National Members Council of the Co-operative Group, where we are putting our values into action and working hard for people struggling to make ends meet in every corner of the UK.
I care so much about making our movement open, welcoming, and rooted in real life. My priorities are simple: more practical support for local clubs, inclusion for older students, and a Labour Students that values every member’s time, background, and experience. I’ll work hard for our movement, and I’d love your support.
