James Davis
For Disability Officer
L3093905
I want to make Labour Students as open and inclusive as possible for all students with disabilities. I have experience of representing disabled students and I want to use that knowledge to represent you as your Disabled Students’ Officer.
Here are the three reasons why I’m running, and what I’ll do:
1 – Accessibility
As a deaf student, I know what it’s like being disabled at university. I want to make our Labour Societies as accessible as possible. If you elect me, I will introduce dedicated accessibility and inclusion training that all societies can access. This training will include neurodivergence inclusion alongside awareness about other disabilities, so that Labour Students becomes a place where everyone can thrive.
2 – Experience
I have stood up for disabled students and young people. I’ve chaired my local authority’s SEND Youth Hub, I’ve worked for a charity supporting young people with disabilities and I’ve served on my university school’s inclusion committee. I know how to listen and stand up for students and young people with disabilities, and I want to bring my experience to the national committee.
3 – Your Voice
I will represent your views. I have experience of engaging with disabled students and bringing about practical change. I know that the Labour Party hasn’t always got everything right, and the proposed PIP cuts were part of that. As your Disabled Students’ Officer, I will stand up for disabled students, work for better accessibility and make sure all our voices are heard.
