I am standing for the position of Eastern Representative because I have led the reinvigoration
of the Labour Society at the University of Essex Students’ Union, prioritising campaigning in
Colchester CLP, a key battleground seat in the East of England.

This has not been an easy task, as the society had been dysfunctional for more than two years.
However, after restructuring it from the ground up, we now have students regularly
participating in local campaigns. Through this process, I have seen the underlying value of
organising student-led campaigning.

Many young people like us are eager to speak out about their passions, their concerns, and the
injustices they saw. These young people are the future councillors, mayors, MPs, ministers,
and prime ministers. This is why their skills and development are so important for us.
Running Labour Students is about building a platform and the right environment for this new
generation of leaders to develop their ambitions, skills, and networks during this formative
period.

I have seen many students with strong ambitions benefit from Student Labour organisations
by developing those transferable skills. This is what I have found to be the most valuable
aspect of running a Labour Society. By standing as Eastern Representative as part of
Organise! team, I want to extend this spirit across the Eastern Region, support students more
widely, and demonstrate that Labour is the only party capable of delivering a bright future for
young people.
